Wordless Wednesday: Ultrasound pics!

When we first found out we were pregnant, we KNEW we wanted to find out the sex. But we KNEW we wanted to pass on the 3D/4D ultrasound and leave something to be a surprise.

Well, we couldn't wait and go the 3D/4D ultrasound done and look how much baby boy looks like them!

Doctor Update!

If you have been following along, you know from my last "Doctor Update" that we were sent for a level 2 ultrasound to check on Christian's kidneys.

The ultrasound was last Friday and I was beyond nervous.

I as stated in my last update, my doctor wasn't really concerned and the fluid on the kidneys was the only indication that anything might be wrong. The ultrasounds had previously shown everything else to be normal.

But a mama is still going to worry.

We got to the ultrasound on Friday and the nurse seemed super secretive asking me what I was told we were sent to the ultrasound for...which just made me think, did they not tell me the truth!?!? No worries. I was on the same page :) We just needed to look at the kidneys.

The ultrasound tech was super nice and this was the first medical ultrasound that I was actually able to even see! The whole thing was displayed on a large flatscreen in front of me. No craning my neck trying to get a peak this time.

The tech also did a great job of telling us exactly what she was doing and looking for the whole time. Christian was checked from head to toe! From the fluid surrounding his brain, to the size of his head, the chambers of his heart, his placenta, whether or not he had a cleft lip...and of course how much fluid was on his kidneys.

Some fluid on the kidneys is normal. There is no cause for concern if there is anywhere between 4 and 7 mL. Christian has barely traceable amounts on his right kidney and 5 mL on his left. Which is considered perfect, normal and healthy :)

Not only did we get the clear for his kidneys, but he is all around healthy! I left as a happy mama as the Doctor told me "Continue with your healthy pregnancy" :)

Christian also is now measuring pretty close to right on track. Apparently he just had a growth spurt before. I was 33 weeks 3 days at the ultrasound and Christian measured 33 weeks 5 days and 5 pounds. Perfect :)

Thanks everyone for all of the prayers!

Oh...and we got another sneak peak at him in 3D! He is definitely more squished in there now...his feet are almost covering his face!

Thankful Thursday - Doctor Update

Ever since I first got pregnant and it hit me that what was easily made inside of me, may not come out so easily. It was then that I decided that natural birth, medicated birth, or c-section...I was open to whatever was needed to get my baby boy out healthy.

Since finding out at our 20 week ultrasound that I had a low lying placenta, I started to prepare for the fact that I may need to have a c-section. However, at our follow up ultrasound, it was noted that my placenta had moved up enough and a c-section would not be necessary. This was confirmed by our doctor at our 32 week appointment yesterday. I will be delivering naturally...with an epidural that is!

However, our 32 week ultrasound also showed that there was some fluid on one of baby Christian's kidneys. This can sometimes be a sign of down syndrome, but baby Christian does not have any other physical abnormalities. It also is something that is quite common in boys and often resolves itself. Just the same, our doctor recommended we go for a level 2 ultrasound (which is in 3D) and have this checked into more closely. He doesn't seem concerned at all and said he has seen this a lot. We are not going to worry yet. But please keep baby Christian in your prayers. Our ultrasound is scheduled for next Friday, April 5th at 2:15pm.

So today I am thankful for maternal medicine, technology, and doctors. Doctors that know enough about the human body, both young and old, that they can care for me and my growing boy and the technology that helps them to do it all to the best ability. I am trusting in their wisdom and the Lord's provision in caring for our baby that we have been blessed with.

Low Lying Placent Update

Today was the day that I was re-checked to see if my low lying placenta had moved up. At my 20 week ultrasound, I was told that I had a low lying placenta and shared this in my 20 Week Bumpdate post. My doctor had originally wanted to check this again before my 28 week appointment but then decided to do it before my 32 week appointment. So today I went! At 30 weeks, 6 days.

My doctor will go over the results with me at my appointment next week, but I asked the tech how it looked. She said that it had moved a very little, but not much. She said she she wasn't familiar with my doctor, so she couldn't say if it would be enough for his liking or not. So we will see.

Jim is hoping that it isn't enough so we can schedule a c-section for May 19th instead of hoping baby boy comes on his own on that day...Hubby's Birthday :) Part of me hopes we get a c-section but part of me still wants the natural birth experience too. I guess I get no real say in this...so only time will tell!

We also found out a few other things at the ultrasound...

  • Baby boy is breech...at our 3D/4D ultrasound in Chicago he was head down and ready to go. He makes some pretty crazy moves, but I didn't realize he was somersaulting...silly boy! He does have time to flip again, though.
  • He is measuring ahead! I'm 30 weeks + 6 days today and he is measuring 31 weeks + 3 days. So only about a half of a week ahead
  • And a whole pound bigger!! He is 3 pounds 16 ounces...so basically 4 pounds! At 31 weeks he should be about 3.3 pounds. I think we are going to have a big boy on our hands... Hopefully he can wear all the 0-3 month clothes we bought for at least a little while!
Here our cute boy is! He definitely looks bigger than he did at our 19 week ultrasound and must be more squished because even his profile is harder to make out now.
