Thankful Thursday - Doctor Update

Ever since I first got pregnant and it hit me that what was easily made inside of me, may not come out so easily. It was then that I decided that natural birth, medicated birth, or c-section...I was open to whatever was needed to get my baby boy out healthy.

Since finding out at our 20 week ultrasound that I had a low lying placenta, I started to prepare for the fact that I may need to have a c-section. However, at our follow up ultrasound, it was noted that my placenta had moved up enough and a c-section would not be necessary. This was confirmed by our doctor at our 32 week appointment yesterday. I will be delivering naturally...with an epidural that is!

However, our 32 week ultrasound also showed that there was some fluid on one of baby Christian's kidneys. This can sometimes be a sign of down syndrome, but baby Christian does not have any other physical abnormalities. It also is something that is quite common in boys and often resolves itself. Just the same, our doctor recommended we go for a level 2 ultrasound (which is in 3D) and have this checked into more closely. He doesn't seem concerned at all and said he has seen this a lot. We are not going to worry yet. But please keep baby Christian in your prayers. Our ultrasound is scheduled for next Friday, April 5th at 2:15pm.

So today I am thankful for maternal medicine, technology, and doctors. Doctors that know enough about the human body, both young and old, that they can care for me and my growing boy and the technology that helps them to do it all to the best ability. I am trusting in their wisdom and the Lord's provision in caring for our baby that we have been blessed with.

Storybook Themed Baby Shower

This past weekend was our Baby Shower!! My good friend Amy hosted and it was held at a community center in Lakeville and was the perfect location! The first thing hubby said when we got there was "This would be a great place to have Christian's First Birthday Party!" What can I say...we are planners!

The shower was as Storybook Themed Shower. We designed invites to look like a storybook. It was a bit of a tricky process, but I found a book clip art and then added text and a faded picture. All the main invite details were on the front. The inside pages of the invite were like pages of the book - one page with a poem asking guests to bring a board book in place of a card, another page requesting diapers if they would like to enter the diaper raffle, and of course a page with directions to the Lakeville Heritage Center.

Everyone was also given a "Wishes for Baby" card to fill out to bring back to the shower. Amy made ours which were cute, but you can also buy them and get ideas from etsy

Decorations were really simple since my mom is a teacher and owns every children's book ever written and millions of stuffed animals to match! I had bought blue table cloths...but they ended up being the wrong size. Ooops!

"Bear Snores On"
and a teddy bear

"Clifford's Bedtime Stories"
and Clifford the dog

"If You Give a Moose a Muffin"
and a stuffed moose

"Are You My Mother?"
and a matching dog

"Horton Hears a Who"
and Horton the Elephant

"The Very Lazy Ladybug"
and a stuffed ladybug

And we still had a whole tote more full of stuffed animals and books that we didn't have room to put out!

If you can see on the party favors, there is a tiny clothes pin attached. We also played the "Don't Say Baby" game

I made the party favors from an idea I saw on this blog. Instead of swedish fish, though, I used rainbow goldfish crackers.

We also served food to go with various storybooks.

The Food Table

"Eating the Alphabet A to Z"
Veggie Tray
"The Very Hungry Caterpillar"
Fruit Salad

"Green Eggs and Ham"
Deviled Eggs and Ham and Swiss Roll ups

"The Stinky Cheese Man"
Cheese and Crackers

And in the crock pot next to it...
"Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs"
BBQ Meatballs

And instead of cake, we did cupcakes...
"If You Give a Cat a Cupcake"

You can find these food ideas and more here and here

As everyone arrived, they mingled, got food, entered the diaper raffle, self-addressed an envelope for making thank you cards easier for mommy :), and designed a storybook mad libs card.

I found this cute mad libs story about the adventure to parenthood. However, instead of having each guest complete an entire story, I broke the story down into one sentence strips and put them on a story page. Each guest then completed their sentence and drew a matching picture. The cards were then all compiled into a story book of sorts that we can some day read to baby Christian.

Here are some pics of everyone mingling as they arrived :)

 The gift table

 For our first game, besides the clothespin "Don't Say Baby" game, we played the newlywed game. It was a co-ed shower so hubby was there too :) Amy asked us different questions about children's shows, babies, and our pregnancy. For example, "When did Chandelle take her first positive pregnancy test?" and "On the children's show Full House, what was Danny Tanner's youngest daughter's name?" We got extra points for matching and points for getting the right answer. However, Amy didn't really keep score and the crowd got to vote for the winner...which of course was me! :)

The only other game that we played was Baby Shower Bingo. Guests got a blank bingo card that they filled in with what they thought we would get for gifts. Then as we opened gifts, they got to mark off the items on their bingo boards.
"God Gave Us You"
and
"Brown Bear, Brown Bear"
books from 2 girls in my high school small group from church
Plus a cute "lovey" blanket that hubby is unfolding.

Knit hats made by my grandma...Christian's great grandma. She made 2 different sizes so they should fit him no matter how big or little he is. 2 in teal to match the prayer shawl she made us for our wedding (I want to use this blanket and hat for some of his newborn pics). 2 in baby blue and a baby blue knit blanket for his "Going Home Outfit".

You can't see it in the picture, but this onesie has a red wagon on it and says "My first SUV"...from none other than my Uncle Don. Camo is a given on that side of the family ;)

It was a great afternoon and went SUPER fast. Baby Christian was super spoiled. We feel so blessed to have been able to celebrate our little boy with all of our family and friends!

I was so excited for everything once we got home that I forgot to take a picture of all the fun things Christian got before putting them away! I guess you will just have to watch for my upcoming posts "Organizing Baby's Room" and "What do I need for baby?" to get a better look at his loot!

He definitely has a well stocked library :) Lots of choices for books to read to him now.

32 Week Bumpdate!

32 Weeks, 1 Day

8 Months!
Time is flying!!!

And my belly is getting HUGE!

Size of Baby::: Baby weighs about 4 1/2 pounds and approximately 16.7 inches long.

Symptoms:::
  • Starting to have some really sore feet and sore back. When they say to wear comfortable shoes, they mean it! And not just easy slip on, no support flats and boots. Wear shoes that have REAL support
  • Still nauseous without meds
  • Braxton Hicks...mainly when I'm walking. I sometimes get them the whole time I'm out for a walk. Last week I had such bad Braxton Hicks that I wasn't sure it was just Braxton Hicks. I was at church leading my high school girls small group and they were a little freaked out. It was cute, though, them offering to massage me and everything :) After laying on my left side and drinking some water, all was better. Whew! Not sure how I'm going to handle REAL contractions!
  • Fatigue is still here and is just something I'm trying to embrace
Cravings::: Not really...

Something I Miss::: Being able to tie my shoes on my own... ha ha

Stretch Marks::: Nada! :)

Wedding Ring::: Off...and looks like it will be staying that way.

Belly Button:::
Still flat but starting to push out a little. I don't think its really going to "pop" though. It doesn't look like there is anything to actually pop out...

Milestones:::
  • Baby Shower has come and gone!
  • Baby continues to fatten up, gaining about 1/2 pound per week until he enters the world!
  • Baby has fingernails, toenails, and some real hair or at least peach fuzz, which is also starting to have some color!
  • Baby's bones continue to harden even more...which is evident in his strong kicks!
  • Baby's circulation continues to improve, which in combination with his increased fat, helps him to regulate his body temperature
Looking Forward To:::
  • Our doctor appointment tomorrow and finding out if we will be scheduling a c-section or not...as well as getting an update and review with our doctor on our ultrasound from last week
  • MEETING CHRISTIAN!!!
1 Month, 3 Weeks, 4 Days...
OR
8 Weeks...
OR
56 Days!

Belated Monday Madness

{Weekend Recap}::: This post is belated because of my weekend. I'm still trying to catch up. The weekend started bright and early Saturday morning. My mom and grandma got to our house around 9am at which time we started prepping food for our baby shower that was going to be later that day! We prepped food for about 2 hours and then headed to The Heritage Center in Lakeville, MN and started setting up and decorating for the shower. The shower went great and we had a lot of fun and Baby Christian was spoiled already! We feel so blessed to have been able to share the day with all of our family and friends. Then after the shower it was home to put everything away and clean up. Then Sunday was off to church and a class at church afterwards. I of course couldn't wait to finish up our baby shopping so Monday I met hubby and one of his co-workers and his family for lunch and picked up the last of the needed/wanted things from our baby registries. Everything is now washed and put away and we are ready for baby! Post to come later this week with more baby shower details :) But, needless to say, my preoccupation with everything baby has delayed my blogging this week.

{The Weather}::: Although spring officially arrived LAST week, the more spring like weather held off until this week. Snow is finally starting to melt and we are reaching 40 degrees more consistently! or at least the high 30s...However, apparently this is warm enough for shorts and a t-shirt and no shoes! Just as the pre-teen down the street who was out for a bike ride this afternoon sporting her summer clothes! ha ha

{The Menu}::: Lately, a menu has not been followed at our house. It's more like a 'What is there to cook' list and then I cook what I feel up to. So far this week our menu has been like this:

  • Baby Shower Leftovers
  • Grilled Chicken Salads
  • Pigs in a Blanket
and we will probably have the following later this week:
  • Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup
  • Steaks and Sweet Potatoes
  • More Left Overs
Someday I will make meal plans again and actually stick to them...Someday.

{My To-Do List}::: So far this week I have already accomplished this:

  • Washing and putting away and organizing all of Baby Christian's stuff
  • Finish shopping for Baby Christian...and trying not to go overboard...
  • Organize Baby Shower Pictures
  • Scheduled a much over due dentist appointment
Still to come:
  1. Baby Shower Thank You Cards
  2. Continue working on/Finish "Before You Were Here" book for Baby Christian - I kept a journal to hubby before we were married and last year for Christmas he got me a homemade binder designed with pictures of us called "Before You Were Here"...a scrapbook of sorts to put pictures and letters to baby Christian in of all the things that were his mommy and daddy's life before he came into the world. Hoping to finish this before baby actually arrives!
I think those are the 2 main things I hope to accomplish...then on to more things next week! Also working to pack to go to my hometown Cornell, WI for Easter with my family! Road trip!

{Weekly Goals}::: Since the weather is FINALLY warming up, I am confident that I will be able to reach my goal this week:

  1. Walk 3-4 days this week...So far I have already walked 2 days! :) Halfway there!

{Words of Wisdom}:::
"Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need." ~Matthew 6:33

Thankful Thursday

I am thankful for.....

GRANDMAS!

I remember my grandma spoiling me a lot as a kid (and she still does today!) but I never realized how spoiled my mom probably felt while my grandma was spoiling us kids.

At least I'm feeling pretty spoiled with all the spoiling that is happening for Christian!

In my 28 Week Bumpdate post, I shared about daddy Jim putting together the cradle for Christian - a gift from Grandma Karen and Aunt Jen, Uncle Dan and Cousin Sarah.

In my Spoiled Already post, I shared lots of cute clothes and blankets that Christian got from Grandma Jill AND Grandma Karen.

Since our Baby Shower is this weekend, my mom was preparing to buy us a baby gift. At least I figured it would be A gift. She asked what my favorite things were on our registry so I sent her a list of the things that we plan to buy if we don't get them off of our Target and Babies R Us registries. Since there isn't a Babies R Us near my mom in Wisconsin, she ordered the gifts online and sent them to our house. They arrived yesterday and guess what!?!? My mom said we could open them right away because she has a gift for us at the shower. And here is what we found when we opened the boxes!!

ALL of our favorite things from Babies R Us!!! :)
Brown changing pad cover
Chicco Baby Carrier
Blue swaddler
Baby Book
Baby's First Year Calendar
High Chair

I was pretty excited about the baby carrier! It was so soft and squishy! Christian is going to get real cozy in this :)

And there is even a drool bib to keep mommy and daddy clean!

We didn't realize this about the high chair we picked either, but it reclines for a newborn seat...

And comes apart for a toddler booster seat. Sorry for the bad pic, but it is kind of a chore to take the whole thing apart after getting it together...so that will wait until Christian is a toddler :)

I can't wait to start writing in Christian's Baby Book! And to use all of this cute new stuff. Okay, Christian, now its just time for you to get here soon!!

So thankful today for grandmas who spoil their grandchildren...and their own children through them! :)

What are you thankful for today?
