Being from Minnesota, there really weren't a lot of options for places to get a 3D/4D ultrasound, surprising enough. But GoldenView Ultrasound has locations in Boston, Chicago, San Antonio, and New York. Jim's family is from upstate New York and last November, Jim took me home to meet his family and get engaged at Rockefeller Center in New York City! After getting engaged, and knowing that we would be in New York every other year for Christmas, we decided that we would make a short trip to New York City to see the tree and again go ice skating at Rockefeller Center. We didn't realize that we would be pregnant for our first trip! Jim, being the 'over the top' guy that he is, planned quite the trip for us...including a surprise trip to GoldenView Ultrasound for an elective gender scan! We weren't able to schedule our one and only ultrasound through our doctor until January 2nd and had REALLY wanted to know what we were having to announce it at Christmas. On the plane to New York, Jim gave me a card with clues in it...clues leading to the fact that we would be getting an ultrasound later that night to find out the sex of our sweet baby! I was sooo excited! But somewhat nervous at the same time. Thoughts were running through my mind...Where is this place we are going? It's someplace that he just found online? Is it legit? Is it safe?
As soon as we arrived at GoldenView, my concerns disappeared. Not only was the office clean and cutely decorated with baby items for purchase, newborn baby photos, ultrasound pictures, and heartbeat teddy bears, but I immediately noticed on my intake forms that GoldenView can also be found on "The Bump" which told me that it wasn't some sketchy place, but used and approved by other expecting mamas like me. The staff was also super friendly, personable and professional. The equipment was also cleaned/sterilized between scans which was another comfort and sign of good things for this mama. Might I add how reasonably priced GoldenView is as well? In New York we paid about $50 for roughly 30 minutes of watching our little one and learning that he was a boy! That is about a third of the cost of our scan with our doctor and about half the cost for an elective scan in Minnesota. Check out pricing for the various locations and ultrasounds here. Might I also add that GoldenView also requires you bring proof that you are receiving prenatal care to your scan? Another plus! They want to know that you and baby are being cared for and not just getting a cheap scan to know the gender, etc.
Based on the AWESOME experience we had with GoldenView in New York City, we couldn't turn down the opportunity to get a 3D/4D Ultrasound while we were in Chicago. Like I mentioned before, we had not planned to get a 3D/4D Ultrasound. When my hubby found GoldenView for our ultrasound in New York, he saw that they also had a location in Chicago, so when we found out that my great aunt had passed away and we would be traveling to Chicago for her memorial service, we started to debate this decision. And easily decided that we would take advantage of the opportunity! And we are so glad that we did!
We left the appointment we 2 color 3D photos and several black and white theramal 3D photos of our precious baby boy as well as a CD of all 83 photos that were taken during our 15 minute session. We also could have gotten a video of the session, but chose not to. Oh, and did I mention that we got to watch the entire ultrasound on a giant tv screen? If it weren't for our elective scans, this mama would have barely gotten to see her cute little man! On the doctor its just a little screen up by my head so I can't see much... Check out my facebook page to see the rest of our 3D pictures from our session. Here are just a few:
Check out his "mustache"! Its really just a shadow, but someday we will show him this when he is trying to grow facial hair and tell him that at one point he had it :) And check out those Begalke cheeks! Chubby cheeks seem to be a thing in my family. You can also see that he has Daddy's nose here!
He stretched and yawned for us!
And even got a little upset when we were poking and prodding him to wake him from his sleep to get more movement. First cry face :)
A front view.
That's our cute boy! A real baby is in my tummy! So crazy!
Now, you might be thinking "Gee, I would love to go to GoldenView, but I don't live in Chicago or New York City or Boston or San Antonio." Well, neither do we! We were simply traveling and on our baby moon! Visiting GoldenView is an awesome experience, and an extra special memory for any trip.

Ultrasound Imaging using 3D and 4D images can offer a special way to share the pregnancy with your family. Most imaging centres will allow as many people in the room as you desire at a certain capacity.
